|The MAINZ is a so called "Bereisungsschiff", originally built 1943 by shipyard Christof Ruthof, Regensburg, as a "State Yacht" for the hungarian "Reichsverweser" Miklós Horthy, as present from german dictator Adolf Hitler to Horthy. "Hungária" had a crew of 16 men with luxurious equipped cabins for 15 guests. In January 1945 german troops seized the ship and escaped with her to Regensburg. US-troops seized the ship and laid it up near Deggendorf. 1950 the german "Wasser- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes (WSV)" (Inland waterways authority) bought the vessel for 170000 DM. Ship was disassembled and went by truck to Koblenz (River Rhine). Assembled again the MAINZ was set back in service for the WSV (Inland waterways authority). Same rebuildings took place in the next years. Her main station is Wiesbaden-Schierstein and she is used for events of the Federal Government, such as state visits, international conferences and meetings related to waterways.
