Description:

The Sea Scout ship MORRIS started life as a 125-foot Coast Guard cutter in 1927. She was built by the New York Shipbuilding Company. She was used by the Coast Guard until 1971, when she became the Sea Scout ship DAUNTLESS, and when later turned over to another Scout group, reverted to her original name. During WWII she received her first designation, WPC 147, later WSC 147 and finally WMEC 147. She retained her original stack until recently when she received this modernized pair. Although the photo shows her in good conditon, she is no longer being used, and some graffiti is evident. Her interior has also been vandalized. She is now being offered for sale to the pubic.

She's presently (Feb 2018) being offered in Boats and Harbors for US $110,000.

The two million dollar overhaul you heard about is the money spent by her long-term benefactor, Bob French, over the years, particularly including a long overhaul in 2000 in which lots of metal was replaced and the entire vessel was blasted and coated in epoxy. Time is catching up with Bob, and he recently passed her along to another scout group, who weren't big enough to make use of a boat that size. She'll be offered in Boats & Harbors, and I'm told the asking price will be US $350,000. This past weekend she sailed under her own power from Sacramento to Rio Vista, where she will be shown to prospective buyers.

Where is she being advertised for sale? I read that she had a two million dollar overhaul. Seams to be a reather small ship to put two million dollars into. The folks that gave the Scouts the two might be a bit peived about it being sold so soon. Is that what they are asking for the boat?
