Thanks Doc, but the name is MITIQ and you stated the word Mitis as meaning eider duck. Thanks and regards.

If you search the web, there is a very basic Inuit - English dictionary. That gives Mitis as eider duck. It is not so clear about Umiavut the other Spliethoff vessel that sometimes carries an Inuit name, but it means something like bog boat.

My understanding is that it translates as Duck, more specifically Eider Duck

Re the MITIQ photo Jim, Thank you for the translation from the Inuit, but the name is MITIQ and not MITAQ as you said in your comment., so presumably it must mean something else ,Thanks and regards from Malta.

They are three Inuit letters, the last two small symbols actually form a single letter, and together with the other two translate as "mi ti qa = mitaq". One online dictionary seemed to translate MITAQ as "To joke or banter" but have been more reliably informed it means Sea Eider.
