Thanks B.Clark , the colour of the vessel somehow helped to give more colour coupled with the blue of the sky and sea and the golden hue of the ancient bastions. Thanks and regards.

It was over 3,500 feet deeper. I think the well the Deepwater Horizon was working on was in 5,000 feet of water. I was on a drillship offshore Egypt, which was working in 8,640 feet of water. At this depth, the vessel stays on location by using dynamic positioning.

As the price of oil is very low, I don't think it is very profitable to drill for oil at the moment, without even taking into consideration the volatile political situation in certain Med counties, Regards.

Thanking you for those informations.
You must be well travelled Robert. Would 8600ft be deeper than that BP well that blew out in the Gulf of Mexico?

There are not many at the moment. There are a few big fields offshore Libya. However, there is a quite a lot of exploration activity. I have been involved in exploration activity, offshore Libya, Egypt, Tunisia and Spain. One thing I was very aware of was that drilling a well in these areas was very challenging. One of the issues in some parts of the Mediterranean is the extreme water depths. One well I was involved in was situated in over 8600 feet of water. The geology of the Mediterranean is also very difficult, this makes drilling very difficult. The other major factor is the political problems in the area.

Practically every nation bordering the Med have oilfields, bar Malta till now.

Are there many oil fields in the Med?
