Shorter, fatter and with less draught than the four Mark 5 RoRos of the "Tonsberg" series that Wallenius Wilhelmsen had built in 2011/12, Thermopylae is the 1st of a new series of Post Panamax beamed car carriers that WWL have ordered from the Hyundai Samho yard, and launched earlier this year. 200 metres LoA x 36.5 m beam with an 8,000 car capacity. They designate these High Efficiency Roro's, with the ability to transit the new locks in the Panama Canal when they come on stream and with a shorter length and shallower draught they can manouver in more Port areas than the longer and deeper Tonsberg series. The second of 8 newbuilds in this series, "Thalatta" IMO 9702455 was completed in April. Ramp capacity is 320 tonnes, and it has 5 hoistable car decks.
