To make the things a little more complicated, the USS Leyte Gulf that you also took in pictures is considered as a cruiser in the United State Navy. It has to do with the increased combat capability at the time (1978) when compared with the now extinct Spruance class destroyers.

Destroyers are normally bigger and more heavily armed. In fact, the Arleigh Burke class of destroyers are bigger and more heavily armed than previous guided missile cruisers. Regards, Hugh

They are listed as destroyers, believe the only frigates in the US Navy are Oliver Hazard Perry class if they are still in service.
