Thanks for your reply, Malcolm. No. 28/41 is the correct number of the casco, sorry for my mistake. The lighter-casco was built by Ab Crichton-Vulcan Oy, Turku/Abo, Finland. The 1200-hp-diesel-engine was an ex U-boat-Diesel built by MAN. Btw: Richard Merton returned to the director´s board of URAG in December 1948 and instantly began the recovery of URAG. Regards Peter

Many thanks Peter.
I was hoping that someone with sufficient knowledge would clarify the circumstances of this ship's history.

Thanks Malcolm for this rare document from the restart of german shipping after WW II. "HEDDERNHEIM" of Unterweser Reederei URAG Bremen, was named after a town district of Frankfurt am Main. Capital came from the famous (jewish) Merton brothers Richard and Wilhelm, founders of the Metallgesellschaft, Frankfurt/M.. They must immigrate into the USA in 1934 and returned after WW II. Engine 1.200 PS, 2.269 BRT, 4.476 tdw, built at Turku/Abo in 1942 as a lighter-casco (No. 28/14) for the german navy, rebuilt and completed as general cargo ship (shelter decker) by Seebeck shipyard Bremerhaven in 1950. Regards Peter
