I grew up on the decks of this vessel and its sister vessel N.B Fraser. They were built in the UK and powered by Kelvin Marine 4-stroke diesel engines. The Allen Young had an incident one night whilst going alongside bauxite vessel M.V Bissuruni to drop off a Pilot at sea. Her main mast got in tangled with the ship's anchor in a freaky incident. The mast finally collapsed. Thank God no one was hurt. I believe the Coxswain in command was Benedict Francis. I heard he later became a Southern Limits Pilot. Someone also said that he's no longer with us. My favourite Pilot Launches were built by DAMEN SHIPYARDS/Holland. N.G Thompson & C.H Walcott. They were powdered by GM DETROIT DIESELS/V12s. Oh, I can hear them screaming, now. Many Thanks to people like , Coxswain Allen... HARRIS...ANDERSON....PILE & MATTIS. Honourable mention to Pilots Carr, and McKennon(Uncle & Nephew) Eddie Blackman, Burchmore Morgan, Richard Kornenborg and H.M Thomas. A protege of my father, dare I say. Good Grief...one photo can bring back such memories. Thanks for capturing good old Allen Young.
