This ship was overdue for a shipyard overhaul in September 1990, when she was assigned to transport ammunition to US forces in the Persian Gulf. She spent the next six months tramping around the world from North Carolina to the Red Sea the Persian Gulf and Diego Garcia; and then between South Korea, Okinawa, the Philippines, Singapore and Guam to the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Small wonder that, by March, 1991, she should have looked so worn out!
