Description:

This ex whale catcher/fishing vessel,.... is built in Mandal, Southern Norway in 1948, later rebuilt and re-engined, has dimensions 89,4 x 21,1 feet. She made her last whale catching in 1977, but seems still to have her whale gun in front. GrT 122. NrT 26. On picture; she seems to be testing her engines.

Thanks, Roar. I think that many people in Northern Norway know this whale catcher from earlier days. 50 years ago and the years before we people here in Vestfold did see other whale catchers in these areas, bigger and stronger special ships, going to Antartic summer season cathing big whales, mostly for greater factory ships. But in the Norwegian summer they often were home in Vestfold, preparing for the next season in the South. It is nearly 50 years since the last whale expedition made such a trip to the other side of the Globe.
