ARAHURA laid up at Aotea Quay, Wellington, 1 August 2015. ARAHURA completed its final crossing of Cook Strait on 30 July 2015 after 31 years of service and is now out of survey awaiting a buyer. ARAHURA is to be replaced in September by the former STENA ALEGRA, IMO 9147291, which has been chartered by KiwiRail and renamed KAIARAHI. KAIARAHI is in Singapore completing an extensive refit which included the fitting of stabilizers.
