Yes, the two traveling gantry / jib cranes are still to be installed - now the consoles in the hull forward make sense... :)
Otherwise, a reefer (or container reefer) without cranes would be not so well equipped for "pinpoint logistics"...

If you follow the below link you will find out why these types of vessels are being built. It's all about point to point and high speed service.

The concept is not new at all. These NB's will be straight replacements for existing full-container reefer tonnage of the DOLE CALIFORNIA type:

Dole Ocean Cargo Express already has bigger container reefers in service st ca 1,000 FEU.

PS: The two traveling gantry / jib cranes are still missing on the photo of the DOLE PACIFIC

Hi Vlad,
Nice picture.
Yes basically a feeder sized container vessel with reefer plugs for every 40ft, 770 plugs is not 'really unheard of' in the industry when you look at the many big box ships with 1400 reefer plugs or more coming in service.
Cheers,
Roy

Thanks for your comments. I'd like to keep the "reefer" word, but only for "traditional" purposes, as this is obviously a container vessel, specialized for refrigerated cargo, meaning additional generators for power requirements and electrician(s) for operation. I must confess, though, the name Dole got me thinking immediately about the "old fashioned" reefer vessels...

Dole enounnced as follows:

"A fleet renewal program is in motion with 3 new specialised refrigerated container vessels to deliver from Nov 2015. These new vesesls will incorporate the latest in energy conservation technologies, innovation in design and operational application, aimed at minimising environmental impact. Aptly named after the major water bodies that Dole's fleet plies in, the MV Dole Pacific, MV Dole Atlantic, and the MV Dole Caribbean, promise to keep Dole in the forefront of persihable product transportation for a long time to come." Hi Vlad
I was impressed with this picture, I have worked over 14 years with refrigerated ships in the fruit season here in Chile is more , work precisely to DOLE CHILE haha, this is the new version of reefer ships, I would like to see new reefer vessels but as it is usual, with 4 or 5 wineries , those times will not return , however it is a very good picture, as always you..

@ Lappino
As far as I know these ships are not listed anymore under "reefer" but under "container" which in reality they are. I sailed container ships which could carry 400 FEU , beside 2000 TEU,,, essentially almost as big than this entire ship.

Yes, I suppose this is not really a traditional reefer. It's basically a reefer container ship. But this is the future I guess.

Thanks, Hugh. I'm used to seeing 30+ years old reefers, so this new one was really a sight for sore eyes... :) And also a news for me.

Nice one Vlad. Good to see some new reefers being built. I didn't know about these Dole ones. Seatrade are having a couple built in China, similar to these Dole ones I think. Regards, Hugh

Thanks, Orinoco. I guess this is the shape of new breed of reefers, and we will see more of them.
