She was the second SAMARINDA. 1947 purchased from the USA. She was 455 feet long and 62 feet wide. Her cross-compound steam turbine with double reduction gears developed 6,000 (AP2 type) horsepower. --- The first Rotterdam-Lloyd-ship with this name was built in 1912 and 1918 seized by US Authorities as military transport, 1919 returned to owners, 1932 scrapped Ghent. --- SAMARINDA (# 2) was one of total 534 Victory ships, built between 1944 and 1945. One ship is still floating as a museum ship, the LANE VICTORY. More: http://www.lanevictory.org/
