The 1954 John Brown, Clydebank, built Cunard liner CARMANIA, renamed from SAXONIA in 1962 when she was presumably equipped and painted for cruising, is seen sailing from Southampton fifty years ago today, on 1st September 1965.

Yes, when the Saxonia emerged from her refit/transformation into Carmania she had been painted in the same livery as Caronia, four shades of green. Later she would adopt the more conventional (less attractive) white hull and upper works.
