Description:

8,887 grt; 9,580 dwt; part-reefer; 17 passengers.
Operator: Glen Line Ltd, London
Built 1939 by Caledon Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd, Dundee. Yard no 372.
Propulsion: twin screws with 2 x six-cylinder, two-stroke, double-acting, opposed-piston Burmeister & Wain 6-62WF-140 of 12,000 bhp (total) for a speed of 17 knots.
On completion, GLENGYLE was taken over by the Admiralty and converted into a fast supply ship, flying the white ensign as HMS GLENGYLE. In April 1940 she was converted into a Landing Ship Infantry (L) capable of carrying 700 troops.

She returned to Glen Line in 1948 and continued until October 1970, when she was transferred to Blue Funnel Line and renamed DEUCALION until arriving at the breakers of Kaohsiung, Taiwan in June, 1971. Photo: April 1969, departing Rotterdam..
