Interesting photo. New Year's Eve celebration (Réveillon) in Rio must be quite the sight. Especially with a dozen + cruise ships anchored offshore. A photo with that configuration would surely make top 3 as well....!

Jadran and Captain Ted every reveillon more than 12 cruise liners are anchored in front off Copacabana Beach.

Jadran,, mathematical you are right and if you would see a picture like that one, one would say they are in 90 degrees, but in sailor language there is no 90 degree angle for relating another vessel. From the ship in the back viewed she is dwars/abeam (in german quer ab)
For the blue one it is simply ,she is astern
