Description:

Another recently extended superstructure. Doesn't look so bad in this view, but is absolutely brutal when seen "en face"...

Also, this photo was but a tiny little bit edited, for I didn't want anybody to complain that this site wasn't about "SUV spotting"... :) The original is here:

In my opinion, the heigth of the accomodation deals with two things: Since these ships are so long, the superstructure has to be designed as aft as to allow a correct alingment of the propeller shaft ( Below the superstructure is the main engine, and the length of the shaft has reached its limit.
In doing so, then a higher navigating bridge is needed to comply with the maximum blind vision sector allowed at the bows.
To solve these problems, ultralarge container ship design has come back to the old style of bridge amidships and engine room aft.

Hi Vlad,
Well I'm a bit conventional in my calculation. They were original 10.000 teu (at the time of delivery still underrated as a little more then 7000).
But as you what is today advertised as 10.000 teu they might indeed advertise her as way more then 11.000 teu.
Cheers,
Roy

Well, I didn't even see the lashing bridges... :)
Of course, higher superstructure, higher lashing bridges, plus maybe RSCS notation ( https://www.dnvgl.com/services/route-specific-container-stowage-rscs--4608 ), and they got themselves additional 2K+ containers...

Hi Vlad,
Thanks for the links. It seems that they heightened the lashing bridges as well. Must be, advertised, somewhere above 11.000 teu now.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Roy, this is what I had in mind when calling her new superstructure "brutal" (I mean, it's almost four times the height of her freeboard!):

Hi Vlad,
Wow you're right, my first thought was that you had mistaken yourself, the accommodation was already higher that previous series from Odense.
But no, and now it's really extremely high.
Indeed they did a better job here then on other series.
Cheers,
Roy
