Description:

The CGM owned Atlantic Service, seen arriving at Rotterdam 5.10.85, was the first vessel to join the Atlantic Container Line (ACL) fleet. She was one of four G-1 vessels originally ordered for their transatlantic service, and had been delivered to founder member Rederi A/B Transatlantic as Atlantic Span in 1967.
ACL became the largest operator in the trade and ordered additional vessels and in 1976 lengthened and widened the G-1's to increase container capacity from 700 TEU to 1,154 TEU.
In 1984 she transferred to the partner company and was renamed as a prelude to the introduction of the new G-3 class (since lengthened to G-3L), that today are in the process of being replaced.
Once the new vessels were delivered, the Atlantic Span was retired and broken up in Taiwan in November 1987.
