Description:

When photographed at Ijmuiden, Netherlands on 8th July 1968, AROSA SUN was being used as a floating accommodation hulk for workers at the adjacent Hoogovens steelworks.
Originally she was the French Liner FELIX ROUSSEL of Messageries Maritimes, having been built in 1930 by Ateliers et Chantiers de La Loire, St Nazaire. Propulsion was twin-screw with a pair of 10-cylinder CCM-Sulzer 10ST68 diesels developing a total of 16,000 bhp for a speed of 17.5 knots. She ran on MM’s service between Marseille and the Far East.
On one of these voyages in 1940, after the German occupation of France, she was requisitioned by the British at Suez and subsequently became a British troopship until returned to MM in 1950. In her war service she flew the Free French flag and was managed by Bibby Line.
In 1955 Arosa Line of Panama bought the ship and operated her on a regular route Bremen-Southampton-Le Havre-Quebec.
In 1958 Arosa Line went bankrupt and AROSA SUN was auctioned off to Hoogovens for use as a floating hostel for steel workers at Ijmuiden. She lasted as such until 1974, when she was towed to Bilbao for scrapping.

In this view she looks to be very well-maintained for an 'accommodation hulk.'
