Thanks again Michael, for your investigation in this case;) Now we have a graphic verification of Bjoern's and your assumption.
Btw, it's a great photograph you managed to take!

It looks like the vessel is indeed undergoing maintenance, swung by the Hansahafen today for a closer look, http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2359708

I agree with captbjoern, this stowage arrangement would suggest such a maintenance scheme. We do something similar when cellguides need to be repaired in the cargo hold, loading containers and folded flatracks to provide a steady base to work on.

Thanks Bjoern for the explanation, in this case the stack of containers shall stabilize the crane, or what's their actual use?

Cheers Clyde, boarding a ferry is probably the most exciting way to discover the depths of the inner harbour!

Thanks for your comment ferry-man Clyde;)

The Containers were most probable placed in that Position for maintenance / repair on aft crane.

Certainly an eye catcher David. Another example of the use of ferries for shipspotting!!!

Hola Antonio, thanks for your comment! Myself, I was unable make head or tail of it, but there must be a deeper sense behind it, I believe:-))

However, she looks pretty rusted and has yet made no move to depart Hamburg port so maybe she's a candidate for the dry-dock.

Regards, David
