Once the ship-breaking capital of the world, the announcement had just been made at the time of this photo (March 1987) that the scrap yards were to be closed to make way for expansion of Kaohsiung port.
Many of the VLCCs in the yard at this time were victims of Exocet missiles in the Iran-Iraq War.
