Description:

WILLIAM H. DANIELS (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) - 7 June 1964 - Location unknown - Photo by Dyke Cobb..

She was built in 1922/23 at Haverton Hill-on-Tees, England for the Eastern Steamship Company Ltd. of Port Colborne, Ontario as WILLIAM H. DANIELS. She was purchased by the Upper Lakes & St. Lawrence Transportation Company Ltd., Toronto, Ontario in April of 1936 however her name was unchanged. In 1940 she was requisitioned by the British War Ministry and sailed for England to take part in supply convoys throughout Northern Europe..

She participated in the Normandy Invasions on 6 June 1944 and went on to serve throughout the reminder of the war. WILLIAM H. DANIELS returned to the Great Lakes in 1950 and settled back into her Great Lakes trade routes for the following decade. With the opening of the new St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959 her small size quickly brought about her demise and in 1960 she was being used primarily for grain storage..

In 1965 was converted to a crane ship however she saw little use. Renamed SCOTT MARK in 1966 by Mid-Canada Transports Ltd., of Port Arthur, Ontario however she saw very little service. Finally in 1967 she was retired and sold to Western Iron & Metals Ltd. for scrapping at Fort William, Ontario..
