Glenlyon was my first ship between August and November 1973 so l got to know her quite well. This photo was actually taken from the aft end of the promenade deck used by the twelve psssengers she was certified to carry... Looking down into no.5 upper tween deck. The brown painted structure is the table aroung the foot of fhe mast between no.5 and no.6 which carried tbe heels of the derricks serving those hatches. Glenlyon was in my opinion a beautiful looking tradititional cargo ship and one of the last to be built.

Hi Balticventure
For me it looks like that the picture is showing the stern of the vessel and not as you stated the bow. I assume we see loading operations of hatch no.6

I agree Tomas....took me back to my general cargo ship days....the variety of stuff was amazing.
I note this Mercedes is RHD...wonder where in the Far East it was destined for?
