Hey Marcus, nice to hear from you. Thank you for your great compliment!
Indeed, it was a nice day at Warnemünde, cold but busy with ships arriving and sailing. And in the afternoon even the sun stopped by for some short hours.

Best regards to you,
David

I like these old ladies. Great shot David!
I will miss this old ferries.
David, I hope you had nice hours in Warnemünde, my favourite pearl at the Baltic sea, too. :-)
best regards,
Marcus

She was built by Nakskov Skibsvaerft for daily service as a railway ferry with 4 railway tracks with 500 m length for 60 railcars on the route Korsør - Nyborg between the danish islands Fyn (ger.: Fünen) (Nyborg) und Sjælland (ger.: Seeland) (Korsør). Plus 180 cars and 2.200 passengers. Front part of the ferry is owed to the special danish harbour conditions at Korsør - Nyborg. In 1997 the new Storebæltsbroen was opened and PRINS JOACHIM was uplaid. After rebuilding at Fredericia Værft in 2000, the railtracks where removed and vsl changed into Gedser-Rostock service. In 2004 a second rebuilt took place at Hamburg by Blohm & Voss with new diesels. Hope this may clarify some questions. Regards Peter

Hi Denis & Ralph, thank you too for your interesting comments, myself I have no clue about the particular purpose of this bow design.

Best regards to you,
David

I never found out the reason for this odd design, although I suspect it could have had something to do with restrictions caused by the width of the linkspan or something to that effect.

Now that's a shot with character! Excellent composition, angle that shows "interesting" design, and a ship earning her living at 35 years of age.

Well done David

Somehow I think the hull & superstructure don't belong to each other here to make this a complete ship...
