Per World Ship Society’s Marine News: February 2005 Vol. 59 No.2: “SELENDANG AYU 39,775/98 – bulk carrier, owned by Ayu Navigation Sendirian Berhad (IMG Shipping Co Pte, Ltd) Malaysia. Reported 7/12/2004 to be disabled and drifting northwest of Bogoslof Island in the Bering Sea with the crew trying to repair the main engine. The tug SIDNEY FOSS was able to get a line on board but this subsequently broke and she drifted ashore on Unalaska Island in position 53.47N, 167.22W and broke in two. Tanks ruptured and fuel oil leaked into the sea. Nineteen crew were taken off by helicopter but a helicopter with another six crew subsequently crashed. She was on passage from Seattle for China with 60.199 tonnes of soya grain.”
