Helsinki in July 1999. IMO 5103936. Ex-EMPRESS OF CANADA 1961, MARDI GRAS 1972, OLYMPIC 1993, STAR OF TEXAS 1994, APOLLON 1995, OLYMPIC 2004 1997-1998.

*Arrived for demolition in Alang, India on December 5, 2003 and scrapped by Jain Shipbreaking Co. Renamed APOLLO for her last voyage

Towards the end of our cruse I gave an illustrated lecture on the career of the ships and her former Canadian Pacific sisters. During the cruise we had of course seen many large and angular Baltic ferries. I began the lecture with the words "This, is a proper ship" and then I had to wait until the applause died down. Everyone on board had the greatest affection for the former Empress of Canada. Of course it helped that our cruise had begun from her original home port of Liverpool. I remember her with the greatest of affection.

I can believe that, it's hard to find anyone who had anything to complain about her - she was a beauty!
