I joined Managing Docks in November 1975 and it was first assignment of my carrier to convert it as 2000 capacity passenger ship named NOOR JEHAN.

After successful conversation maiden Voyage was to Dubai with 1800 passengers who were migrants workers.

Then in September 1978 four days before transporting Haj Pilgrims to Jaddah out of 5 DGs 3 conked off.If Hajis do not reach Jaddah by 28th Sept 1978 it would have caused lot of problems.I was called to Chairman Admiral Kuruvilla's office where I suggested to install 2 Nos.400 KVA alternators in empty swimming pools on Deck 2&4.I knew there was a straight duct to engine room from where cable was taken.The switchboard had a coupler/disconnector so ventilation fans were run on it and other Alternator gave supply to 300 KW galley.
Ships 2 DGs were used for essential load such as ships machineries etc.and communication plus lightning.
MMD was advised by Ministry of Shipping to grant one time relaxation in the rules for this unforseen situation.
I did the job successfully, Captain Waz gave appreciation letter and Chairman also sent a word of praise for my make shift solution.
Recalling those good old days and enjoying the retired life at the age of 70 !

B&I is Kenya (smaller funnel) and I think the CGT vessel is either Ville D'Alger or Ville D'Oran

Launched:6/10/1956. Completed: 6/1959.
14,569 gt.
1975-sold to Mogul Line Ltd., Mumbai, India. Renamed "NOOR JEHAN".
1985 - Broken up at Mumbai.
I can't tell whether it's the B&I's KENYA or UGANDA in the near background; and is it French Line's FLANDRE to the left?

CABO SAN VICENTE's GRT was listed as 14,569.

Hi,

the correct name is CABO SAN VICENTE. She was built in 1957 for the Ybarra line from Spain.
