Presumably designed for speed of unloading/loading, hence four cranes. Suspect that that required shorter jibs, so are placed off-centre to increase over-side outreach.

But I find it difficult to get my head round the scale - there are so few geared Panamaxes

Hi Hannes. Perhaps the design is for similar reasons as for the .... gracht vessels?? See http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2361554#

I think it has to do with self loading and unloading over SB.

She is moored over PS at the EMO quay.

I'd guess, to provide easy unobstructed access to holds for shore cranes or a grab floating crane. Also at minimal outreach cranes have higher hoisting capacity.

Interesting bulker for the cranes' arrangement as well as how they store their booms. Nicely done, Hannes!
