They will need the money, because most likely this ship will be completely finished after the charter. Cruise ships have been used for this role before and usually after the charter they have massive plumbing issues among others. I think the only ship that return to service after an asylum seekers charter has been the ITALIA PRIMA (ex-STOCKHOLM), but the she was completely gutted and rebuilt!

German news magazine SPIEGEL ONLINE reports that OCEAN CALA has been chartered as refugee accommodation for 1.800 persons. This is confirmed by Alexandra Elias, spokeswoman of the swedish immigration department. Swedish gov. will pay 450 Skr. (48 Euro) per day and refugee. Good business for vessels owners. Final berth still unknown, as port authorities of the baltic port of Härnösand (400 km north of Stockholm) refused to berth the ship.

Apparently enroute to Sweden for use as an asylum seeker dormitory. I wonder which lucky refugees will get the balcony cabins ;-)
