California Steamship Co Inc - Panama flag:

ARCADIA (same name)(1923-1927) - 1897 Hapag
PAWNEE ex-HARBURG (1923-1928) - 1899 DADG
ISONOMIA ex-NASSOVIA (1922-1927) - 1901 Hapag
IDA ex-PULASKA ex-IDA (1923-1924) - 1906 Unione Austriaca
PEQUOT ex-OCKENFELS (1923-1923) - 1910 DDG Hansa
[from Miramar, which draws on Starke-Schell">

From length of name this would be ARCADIA (or possibly ISONOMIA). Cannot find photo of ARCADIA (or sister ARABIA) to compare (anyone have one of the Hapag fleet histories?)

ISONOMIA (difficult to compare with this angle/quality): Nassovia

In my collection, I have photographs of two different vessels owned by the California SS Co. Inc.:

Pawnee 5217 GRT built 1899 as Harburg for the DADG
1917: Pawnee (US Shipping board)
1923: Pawnee (California SS Co. Inc.)
1928: broken up

Pequot 5261 GRT built 1910 as Ockenfels for the DDG Hansa
1917: Pequot (US Shipping Board)
1923: Pequot (California SS Co. Inc.)
1923: Argenfels (DDG Hansa)
1933: broken up.

Info: from Starke/Schell Registers 1899 and 1910

Kees

This vessel is most likely owned by the California SS Co. Inc., of Panama, with headoffice in San Francisco. This firm operated also some former German steamers shortly after WWI. These vessels have the same funnel colours and were also registered under the Panamanian flag. Regards,
Kees
