Tilbury, downriver, 1/6/81

Crescent Shipping had an "Ence" for every letter of the alphabet, including 'X' as witnessed here.

Sank 21 May 1985 about 7.5 miles north of Calais, after colliding with 'Rosita Maria' [999 grt, blt 1977] in fog. She was on a voyage from Calais to Howdendyke.

Lovely to see any pictures of the LRTC vessels Phil. Along with the 'bovril' boats they where one of those so familiar sights on the river that they often got overlooked when it came to spending precious film on them! Just read a most interesting book 'Out of Rochester' written by one of their motor barge skippers, and following that I am not too surprised where the blame lay for the accident, it appears they always operated on a pretty much 'hit or miss' type philosophy :-o

'Xanthence' sank 21 May 1985 about 7.5 miles north of Calais, after colliding with 'Rosita Maria' [999 grt, blt 1977] in fog. She was on a voyage from Calais to Howdendyke, so hadn't got very far.
I understand that the master of 'Xanthence' was blamed for the collision, on account he had not reduced speed in the fog.
