Description:
Photographed arriving at Avonmouth on 31st March 1966, exactly fifty years ago today, is Elder Dempster Lines’ 1947 Scotts’, Greenock, built SULIMA under her new name of MANO, having just been transferred to the recently acquired Guinea Gulf Line.
MANO was sold in 1967 to the “London Greek” Frangos Brothers ANNA F. as which she was laid up at Antwerp with engine damage between May 1972 and September 1973 when she left for Gdansk under tow for intended repairs which were found to be uneconomic.
Under tow, bound for breakers at Santander, ANNA F. broke adrift and stranded south of Klaipeda on 4th December 1973.
This photograph and caption appears in my book Bristol Port and Channel Nostalgia, published by Coastal Shipping of Portishead.
