One of the best Shipspotting locations in Melbourne is at the end of Francis St Yarraville at the Yarra River in Melbourne with a purpose built jetty. View above is showing looking back towards the CBD area. All ships heading to Victoria Dock, Swanson Dock, South Wharf,Appleton Dock, Yarraville and Maribyrnong wharfs pass this point.
Best times for this location is from mid morning as early morning you would be shooting into the sun.
The best way to get here is via car or as I do by bicycle. The only way by public transport would be by train, the nearest station would be Yarraville or Spotswood both with about 1/2 hour walk away. The area is also popular with local fisherman so it can get a little crowded on weekends. Bring food and drinks as there a no shops near by.
