@ tropic,, I meant more the weather conditions during loading,, not afterwards.
I had only 3 times pilots by heli in my carrier,, but admired those heli-pilots doing that job. Sur not a easy task !!!!

All are good points Capt. In this case, we had about 35kn of relative wind (green 30) over the deck and spray over hatch 1. Not a pleasant day for our sort of work. . . . .

tropic

Thanks Capt, wind maybe another factor..only compare with http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2342260

If one looks closer, the wind must have come from the port-fwd-quarter, hatch no 1 is almost clean and all other hatches are dirty.

It is not necessarily stb side alongside. The small particles in coal cargoes just get blown to the off-wind side of the vessel. For that metter she could have been also with port side alongside. We experience that on bulk carriers all the time. One side dirty and the other relative not. Worst is when one discharges over a longer time period and the wind changes over time, or offland-onland winds, often when islands or in ports where mountains are in the back side.(Sea-breeze - Land breeze)

Thanks Brian, and husni is quite correct jadran, stb side alongside, so spilled cargo ends up on the open hatch cover on that side.

tropic

Thanks Dennis and Craig, and thanks for the info too. Long trip ahead, starting at least with an efficient pilotage. . . . (Craig was the outbound port pilot and we were about to pick him up when the pic was taken)

Cheers,
tropic

Nice pic tropic, southabout to Sweden with a bunker stop at Capetown or Las Palmas in Canary Islands, eco speed at charterers request, looking at about a 64 day voyage. At least it will be summer in Sweden when they get there. Cargo is 82500t
