Captain Ted I understand, I mean, really, what is the difference between a "Littoral Combat Ship" and a "Corvette" or "Patrol Ship"? I think sometimes they just try to get the name that will sound the newest and get more funding.

The navy terms them "Amphibious Warfare Ships" and "Amphibious Assault Ships", and LHD stands for "Landing, Helicopter, Dock". However the category I put in Shipspotting was the closest one I could find. Guess it is all in how you want to say it.

Landing Ships,,, they are called so because they have everything aboard to make an invasion onto a beach for example,, i.e. Landing,,,,, or ?
