Yes some very funny and entertaining comments on this thread. At least the photo still exists, common sense prevailed haha! It is a great site and I for one fine it very useful.

No chance Michael, when I last visited the USA I was referred to as an alien and I thought if this is a special relationship, its time to give up

The discussion end up like this, because the administrators apply the guidelines biased. Not arbitrary.

I just hope no one of you gentlemen plans a trip to the US in the next days ...

A great country, but ...

Torpedo launcher + cruise ship = terrorism charge in countries where fear has replaced a good sense of humor expecially when it comes to many officials. Oh - and I forgot ww3, the chainsaw and the Darknet ...

But back to what this is all about: excellent photo Thomas, as always!

Best regards,

Michael.

Ok, let's see...

Branch saw
2 lenses
Chainsaw
Rifle
Bush wacker
Wire cutters
Hand held torpedo launcher

Got it, though the delivery of the torpedo launcher might take two to three weeks according to the friendly vendor in Darknet.

Thanks for this most interesting and useful discussion gentlemen!:-)

Ah yes... and it's a fine photo, too!

Hi Tomas, again a wonderful capture by a more than adequate marine photographer.Lets stop this benal attitude to the sheer joy of viewing ships of all types. We are very fortunate to have an excellent site like this to view all types of maritime vessels. Fernley James Harris. Chief Engineer retired.

WW3! Yeah, i got it. Tried many a times to use a sense of humour at this site, the lack if it made me back off quite a lot. But lets see.

Jeez, I did not mean to start world-war III - my initial comment as Bob quite rightly said was totally tongue in cheek as I'm sure Tomas understood. Banter as the youth of today would say. But again, it seems to illustrate that most people on this site have absolutely NO sense of humour and take everything so seriously.

And Stan you are absolutely right... and don't forget wire cutters for inconvenient fencing and a hand held torpedo launcher to get rid of bloody yachts...that's why camera bags are getting bigger every year.

Never goes out without a bush-wacker !!!!

Lol Denis, or something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKieGUH9pzg ;-)

What I do not understand is; do you you guys don't have 2 lenses, a chainsaw and a riffle in your standard spotting equipment? You should have.

Edit
comment

person
My first comment (below) was made tongue-in-cheek (I did say LOL) and I am sure Allan's initial comment was meant in a similar, light-hearted vein. No need for anyone to get hot under the collar about it.

Ted I caught yours and the good doctor's funny. I just think we sometimes get too much in the weeds when discussing obstructions/ deletions

Edit

person
The ship is obstructing the beautiful coast in the background. I wonder how's this accepted?

Edit
comment

person
Relax Becky,,mine was polemic :-)

Edit
comment

person
Gee whiz guys its not like the ship's name is obscured

Edit

person
Hi Tomas...next time you better take a branch saw with you !!! :-)

I like it too Jonwoodhouse, but i'm talking about the principles. for something small or something that actually makes the photo more interesting a photo should not be deleted. But, this photo is the confirmation that if a photo is taken in the northern Europe isn't deleted, even if doesn't follow all the guidelines.

Edit
comment

person
If this photograph should be deleted due to trees then the moderators are idiots...... the framing of the pic makes it. As for the livery, it's taken a while but I do like it now.

Edit
comment

person
Yes, this should be deleted according to the rules. My photo got deleted. Got some good review, but didn't matter. Where are the rules, admins???

Edit
comment

person
That branches draw attention, from the ship, but not as much as a bird. So, all the talk is subjective about this. if the ship is exposed near to 100% should not be deleted, regardless the reason. Talking about what obstructs the ship is regarding to the personal filter of the viewer. So saying that if is a bird in a photo should be deleted and the one with some branches should stay, is very wrong. If there are rules, should be the same for everyone.

Edit
comment

person
The foreground and the background add a lot of context to yet another of Tomas's excellent photos. And there is someone on a jet ski following in the wake. Don't delete.

Edit
comment

person
I don't like 'hull-art' at all and in fact I'm not very keen on any kind of graphics on the hulls of ships. However, I have to agree that there are some companies where their name or logo have been applied quite attractively, this is not one of those instances. The new DFDS livery has a distinctly temporary look to it and in this instance, on a large and bulky-looking ship it just looks weak.

Edit
comment

person
If 3 small branches is enough for a deletion, its totally ok with me.
:=D I have paid attention to the deletion/obstruction-debate, and my view is as follows: As long as a ship is exposed to nearly a 100 percent and there aint a bird in the midst of the picture/something that draws the attention away from the ship itself, it should pass. But thats just my view. I am a believer in some rules about this. either diehard rules, or none. Otherwise it will be pure mayhem, nuclear war and sodom and gomorra.

Great photo, Tomas but under the old regime this might have been considered for deletion for being obstructed. Maybe best take Allan's advice and take your loppers next time (LOL)

Nice, new vantage point eh ! Get them tree loppers out.
