Thank you all for the actual information! It's incredible, how fast the charterers change. I really hang behind to follow the changes on our site in a timely manner: www.seeleute-rostock.de/content/moreships/9-Passengers/9a-V1/Voelkerfreundschaft.htm

Greetings! Andreas

Nice catch Bob. I first saw her as VOLKERFREUNSDSCHAFT back in 1971 in the then Leningrad, the second time I saw her, her wash almost sunk us in the Thames estuary as she sped past our little fishing boat, we all had to hold on for dear life.

Regards

Bob

Also the disappearance of the forward derricks, the fact that the bridge has been brought forward and the funnel redesign , she looks exactly as she did in '56

Apart from the ducktail on the stern, the hull, up to the top of the black, is still quite recognisable as that of the STOCKHOLM

Wow THE Stockholm to quote Ted. In law school I defended her skipper and that was not yesterday mes amis. Thank you Bob I would not have recognized her as I thought she was a long time Alang alum

Ted: The ducktail does her a lot of good by keeping the wash down when cruising narrow passages in archipelagoes and other environmentally sensitive waters in various parts of the world. She didn’t need a duck tail as a trans-Atlantic liner!
For me, it was great to capture this old lady some 47 years after I first photographed her as the East German VOLKERFREUNSDSCHAFT (Friendship Between Peoples –the communist version of the Nazis' Kraft durch Freude/Strength through Joy) at Rotterdam in April 1969.See: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2444133. I also saw her several times in Tilbury in the days before I could afford a camera, when she brought the party faithful to UK for a look at the decadent West

Nice shot Bob, I wonder where you were standing for that one! :)

She has the funnel markings of Rivages du Monde http://rivagesdumonde.fr who are operating her during the summer months. She was on her way to Dunkerque from Tilbury.
