clyde puffer Logan discharging coal at lochbuie ,isle of mull ,scotland. these vessels were flat bottomed and this was the usual method of getting cargo to remote areas with no piers.

Great old pic. Used to watch these very events happening on the Isle of Arran when a kid. There is one harboured at Crinan and another still operates as a "Mini Cruser" in the sea lochs of the west coast, like a floating caravan. Not motor vessels though, very much steam. Note the steam coming from the forward winch derrick in your picture. Cheers.
