My dad was on that ship in 1956. I don't know much about it. On Ancestry.com, it's listed as Detroit Border Crossings and Passenger and Crew Lists, 1905-1957

Arrival Date 2 Jun 1956
Arrival Place Detroit, Michigan, USA
Departure Place Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
Ship Askot

I do not think that this is ALCOR of 1912:
http://www.rdm-archief.nl/RDM-NB/RDM-031.html

Appears to registered at Helsingfors with name probably 6-9 letters. Perhaps NAVIGATOR ex-TOWER DALE ex-BOMPATA, though lacks the aft kingposts (but does have the slotted derrick booms, awning structures)

Similar also to MERCATOR

I am not sure, but I believe that it is a ship owned or managed from 1955 to 1958 by the Finnish Rederi A/B Asta (A. Andersson), Mariehamn. The ships name was ALCOR. So the date of the photo is 1955 to 1957. Sorry I do not know more.

ASKOT
1938 completed by Frederikstad Mek.V., Frederikstad for Rederi A/S Alladin (J.T.Farsjo & Co., Oslo)
1.399GRT, 2.500tdw, T4 Cyl., 11kn
1957 ATTANAGALLA(Ceylon Shipping Lines)
1961 pa. HIWIND
1964 pa. ANGELIKA
1968 broken up Hongkong

The other ship to the left is different. She certainly is not the vessel built in 1906 for Finska Angfartygs. She is much larger than 1.197 GRT and built probably between the world wars.
