Description:
Passing Portishead on the evening tide of Sunday 3nd July 1966, so exactly fifty years ago today, was Hilmar Reksten's 1950 Malmo built NERVA inbound for Avonmouth.
NERVA was laid up at Cadiz on 28th March 1967, sailing on 21st May bound for Philadelphia as the Shipping Corporation of India's DESH SEWAK. She put into Gibraltar on 28th May with machinery trouble and arrived at Philadelphia on 5th August. She then made her way to Baton Rouge to load a cargo for Bombay, calling at Dakar on 16th December with continuing engine trouble and finally arrived at Bombay on 3rd February. It is believed that she then traded only locally until beached at Bombay in September 1972 for breaking.
