Note that this photo was taken before the Academy emblem was mounted on the after stack. Initially she also had black "watch caps" on her stacks, but this was so similar to U S Coast Guard coloring (before they'd adopted the orange stripe on the hull) that the Academy was asked to change it, and the watch caps became blue instead, as apparently shown in this photograph.
