Description:

After a six month deployment to the Mediterranean what is the worst possible thing that can happen on your way home? That's the "Brooke" class guided missile frigate USS Talbot which had a catastrophic loss of power in Mid-Atlantic. It's wallowing around quite badly even in relatively calm seas so I can imagine a lot of "lunches were lost". My ship, the USS O'Bannon (DD 987) is preparing to rig a tow until the Talbot's engineers could restore their own power. That took most of the day and an ocean going tug came out from Norfolk to meet up with Talbot in case another tow was needed.
location: Mid-Atlantic

@Stan,, only possible when you link it to outside web sites, as you can see daily,,always the same type shots with right away 200 and more hits but no comments,, by now the 3 top spots is a farce here

Great shot, them things rolling like nuts in zero wind and slight swell, same as reffer vessels,, the hulls are just to sleek for staying kind of stable,,, just rolling and they don,t stop doing so !!!!!!

Nice shot and a snapshot from the Cold War.

Single turbine , single shaft , single prop, single point of failure, guess there was a reason the the Perrys got backup propulsion.

Been there done that, dead in the water with defective steering in 18 m/s with a RSwN auxillary in the Baltics. A fridge in one of the messes full of beer broke loose and the crew scrambled frenetically to save it and it's precious contents. Had to stand up eating lunch, well the few of us who actually ate.

Regards
Göran
