Hi, working at MSC in France I confirm mainly names are issued of daughters or wifes of directors.
FYI Oliver is the son of Mr VAGO CEO MSC Cruises

It fun trying to keep upto date with the new MSC ship names, Oliver is Diego Aporte's nephew.

Great pics and info as always gents

Haha, correction, running out of female names, and correct, Oscar is Diego's son.

Oscar is the son of Diego Aponte, MSC's CEO. Oliver is...also, I think. This departure from a very established tradition of inventing female names just to give them to very quickly expanding MSC fleet was well publicized, and the little Oscar was present for the delivery of his namesake.

Thanks Brett
Perhaps Oscar and Oliver are husbands of directors?

Brett Bachman,, who would name a girl OSCAR?

Edit

@davidships...I used to work for MSC...their owned ships are named after the wives or daughters of company directors. Their charter vessels are named after a place.

Haha David, if they are all girlfriends he must be a very handsom guy with so many female ship-names. And his wife must very open minded.

I have a Mirja in the Daewoo serie and a Mirjam in the Samsung serie if that is already not confusing enough.

Cheers,
Roy

No doubt Vlad will be first to tell us whether it is Mirja (Finnish, Swedish, German) or Mirjan (Dutch Austrian, Estonian).

Anyone know how they choose these female names? Aponte relatives, gilfriends, employees?

Just to confuse things, I see on their web-site that Eastern Pacific (Quantum Box) are naming their 4th vessel MSC Mirjam

Well, I guess it's back to good old inside information again. Or, to quote the little bird, "you didn't hear it from me..." :)

The last one's name is "MSC Tina".

Hi Vlad,

Many thanks for another big boxer.
There seems to be already (part of) a sister next to her.
I lost count a bit and I checked I've only got 5 names: Ditte, Erika, Jade, Mirja and Reef.
Do you already have the missing 6th name from Daewoo?

Cheers,
Roy
