Description:
KALAW is seen passing Battery Point, Portishead, inbound for Avonmouth, on 7th September 1966, so exactly fifty years ago yesterday, on Elder Dempster Lines service from West Africa.
Launched at Lithgows' yard, Port Glasgow, on 29.12.58 as KOKO, she was delivered in 1959 as PRAHSU for British and Burmese. On transfer to Henderson Line in 1964 she was renamed KALAW.
On 19 October 1966 she left Liverpool for Calabar as a new KOHIMA, replacing the 1953 built ship of the same name which had been sold to Sebastiano Tuillier and renamed FESTIVITY.
Sold in 1974 to Costas G.Papanastasiou of Piraeus, the KOHIMA (ex KALAW) traded on as PAPAGEORGIS until arriving at Kaohsiung on 16.4.80 to be broken up.
