Description:

So here is NYK Eagle arriving on her maiden voyage in Southampton Water in perfect conditions, except the photo is completely buggered up by some selfish twat in a yacht who kept position until level with us then tacked off behind the NYK to disappear up the Hamble River. Well done Sir... if only we had hand held weaponry... thinking of a visit to the Yemen.

Clive, there are many that think that way, for me, when I have a 90 mile round trip to get the photo, I really do not want it obstructed, boring or not, its personal preference

I used to know someone that hated having small boats or yacht 'intrude' into his photographs. He always wanted his pictures to have nothing but the ship. His pictures were very good but utterly devoid of interest. Small boats, tugs or yachts, as well as some background add interest, a sense of scale and a sense of place.

Many of great maritime artists of the ocean liner era, such as Charles Dixon, Odin Rosenvinge and Montague Black often included small sailboats and other traffic cluttering the foreground. To me, the yacht reminds me of the artistry of those scenes...

At least the toy gives scale to the real one . . .

I'm curious as to who is being selfish here, the WAFI out for a jolly or the shipspotter?

Allan,
How I hate those yachts ! A perfect shot totally ruined. It is so annoying.
All the best
