The six ships were formed by two groups of three sisters, one group built in Aarhus (MALLORCA, IBIZA and KORSIKA) the other in Bremen (MALTA, KRETA and ELBA), sold in 1971 the first two to French owners, the ELBA to other Danish interests). ELBA was owned by Italians in 1977 -1984 as GEVISA, and this is probably the ship in the image. I knew very well all six ships, as they called regularly in Lisbon under DFDS colours, and the tree Danish built later became Portuguese.
The Danish-built sisters were MALLORCA, sold in 1972 to Empresa Insulana de Navegação, Lisbon and renamed GORGULHO (1972-1986) and VITORINO NEMÉSIO (1986-1988). Sisters IBIZA and KORSIKA were sold "en block" with MALLORCA and were renamed CEDROS and LIMA, all by Empresa Insulana. In 1974 Insulana merged to Cia Colonial and the new company was CTM (1974-1985), both fleets being transferred on 4 February 1974. The ship in the image is not one of the Portuguese. The three Portuguese ships had light grey hulls and green boot topping with yellow funnels with black top and buff masts under Insulana ownership. All had full grey bows, and the black in the funnel top was larger than the one depicted on the photo. In 1974 GORGULHO, LIMA and CEDROS were repainted in CTM colours - dark blue hull with green boot topping and orange funnels with a yellow band between two blue bands. The hulls were repainted black with red boot topping in about 1979. The ship in the photo is most certainly the Italian owned.

She looks like a trio of sister-ships built at Aarhus :
- GORGULHO (IMO6600876)
- CEDROS (IMO6600101)
- LIMA (IMO6605993)
and a fourth built at Bremen :
- GEVISA (IMO6604925)
GORGULHO and CEDROS had dark hull.
So I will go for LIMA or GEVISA ...

Yvon
