Description:

04/11/2016, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

Full cargo discharge completed on /04/11/2016.

Further info re. Maersk Patras.

Vessel suffered one generator electrical failure which affected the switchboard- the other two generators followed suit and the ship sustained a total switchboard meltdown.
Thus the call for emergency towage to Las Palmas.

The emergency generator provided minimal power for
bridge requirements. No power for hotel services, nor much else.

Of 1,044 containers aboard, 214 were loaded
reefers, which were a priority for removal on arrival at Las Palmas. (Too late for the perishables, I fear!)

No electrical power for ballasting/de-ballasting pumps during the full discharge of cargo alongside (which was completed 04/11/2016) so stability had to be calculated on the hoof, as the cargo was offloaded.

Vessel was 1.5 metres down by the head as a matter of preferred trim during the passage and was not affected by the breakdown.

Due to the ship's age and huge cost of electrical repairs, it is anticipated that she *may* be sold for demolition.
Time will tell.

Frank, I'll pass on any information that I receive.

Hi Jadran, she is indeed very low-cut at the stern. I took some more photos of her today, which I will post later; vessel has been moved to a lay-by berth and has some shore based generators 'helping' electrical demands. One onboard generator still working too.
Awaiting decision time for her future.

Regards, Rick

"... that she *may* be sold for demolition."

Hi Rick,
Looking on this your photo at the ship's very, very low transom stern and the stern's deck entire area ... appears (only appears ! ) like the demolition has already begun on that area .... luckily, it's only an optical illusion!
