WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
I went aboard the Escape on a drug interdiction cruise in 1983 when the ship's Health Specialist had to go on emergency leave. It was a fun two months and a contrast to the past two years I'd spent on a Spruance class destroyer. There was an urban myth aboard the Escape that it was the last active vessel that was present in Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 even though the Escape wasn't even laid down in the yard for another 9 months. Don't know why they believed it. The USCGC Escape was originally the U.S. Navy USS Escape (ARS6) until transferred to the Coast Guard in 1978, rebuilt and serving until 1995.
