Description:

US Military Sealift Command operated Expeditionary Mobile Base. Modified Alaska-class oil tanker. Will be used as a base mine warfare and special warfare forces. Can support both boat units via lower deck and up to CH-53 Super Stallion size helicopters on the upper/flight deck.
Commissioned in 2015 with a full load displacement of approx. 78,000 tons. Has a draft of 25.5 feet and a top speed of 15 knots.
She is scheduled to deploy in early 2017 to replace the USS Ponce (AFSB(I)-1) in the Persian Gulf with the 5th Fleet.
Seen here going towards Norfolk Naval Station. She is going west over the Thimble Shoals Tunnel passage of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel of Virginia Beach VA. Going from the Atlantic Ocean into the Chesapeake Bay.
