Crude oil tanker. 39,796 grt; 66,950 dwt.
Operator: Shell Tankers (UK) Ltd, London.
Built 1966 by Deutsche Werft AG, Hamburg-Finkenwerder. Yard no 780
Propulsion: 2 x Stal-Laval steam turbines of 16,000 shp (total) geared to single screw shaft. Speed: 14 knots.
1993-sold to breakers at Alang, India, arrived 20/4.
Photo: Gravesend 2/2/1968, leaving the Thames after a visit to the tank-cleaning jetty at Tilbury.
For most of her career, DRUPA was used for ship-to-ship oil transfer lightening of VLCCs in Lyme Bay, as evidenced in the photo by the davit-mounted fenders.
